Our Rescues

Our rescue journey began with an innocuous chance meeting with local Naomi Creek, the island’s resident wallaby carer. We have been inspired by her compassion and selflessness to become a force for good, and help with rescues where we can. These are our darlings so far…

Jasper

Our first little rescue was Jasper, a tiny pinkie joey Naomi brought into our lives when she urgently had to fly off island for a few days. He arrived fragile and silent, all warmth, milk feeds and gentle hope. Looking after Jasper was a beautiful, yet heartbreaking experience. We fought day and night until Naomi returned, but sadly he perished a few weeks later. He was just too little.

Poppy

Poppy came to us in early 2025 and was the cutest cute that ever did cute! Unfortunately she was also born with severe hip dysplasia which made it impossible for her to walk or toilet properly. Poppy came to us full of bouncy energy and vivacious life. Through the efforts of the Flinders Island community and beyond, we managed to raise the money to amputate her bad leg… and then nothing could hold her back!

After recovering, Poppy was adopted by well-known artist Jane Giblin in Lady Barron and had a crazy, joyful life with her brother Agate. Unfortunately, as was always a possibility, Poppy’s remaining hind leg could not withstand the rigours of puppy life. Rather than let her suffer Jane made the terrible decision. Poppy went to her final rest a beautiful, happy, fiercely loved teenager, surrounded by her family. She is desperately missed by all.

Annie

Lil’ orphan Annie, Annie-foe-fanni-bo-banni boo boo, Annie-boo… this sweet girl goes by any monikers. Originally hailing from Lady Barron, she came to us once again through the illustrious efforts of Naomi. Hairless and suffering from a terrible case of RBF she is now thriving and treating the farm like her own personal kingdom… but we don’t mind. It’s a joy to have her happy, hoppy and in our lives!

Marcia

Marcia came to us thanks to one of the Island’s lovely residents, Fiona Stewart. She had been found on the side of the road beside her mother, who had clearly passed several days earlier. Marcia didn’t fight, and she didn’t run—she just waited.

Those first few days were heartbreaking. We spent hours removing hundreds of ticks and gently coaxing her to eat and rehydrate after everything she had endured alone. Then, almost miraculously, she came to life… and boy, did she!

Biting, kicking, hissing, charging—we thought we had accidentally rescued a Tasmanian devil! It quickly became clear that everything was about Marcia, all the time. That’s how she earned her name, inspired by the Brady Bunch’s “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!”—and also in honour of our lovely, animal-loving friend Marcia in Lady Barron.

Marcia still nips (mostly when she’s hungry!), and her puppy-like zoomies bring us endless joy and laughter—despite the occasional trip or headbutt. She is a gorgeous, silly little delight, and we are so proud to see her thriving on the farm.
