Our Journey
Flinders Island Harvest is the culmination of a family’s journey to reconnect with the land and live more sustainably. It’s the story of Lauren, Kane and Maggie the beagle, who made a life-changing decision to leave behind the fast-paced corporate world of Brisbane, Australia, and embrace a simpler, more meaningful life on Flinders Island.
Our story began with a growing realization that the fast-paced, consumer-driven lifestyle we were living wasn’t fulfilling. We yearned for something more meaningful, a life where we could grow our own food, regenerate the land, and be part of a community.
After a transformative trip to Flinders Island in 2021, we knew we had found the place where we could turn this dream into a reality. Surrounded by the island’s beauty, wildlife, and sense of community, we saw the potential to live in a way that aligned with our values. In 2023, we took the leap and relocated to Flinders Island, where we began Flinders Island Harvest. Our farm is designed to work with nature — using regenerative farming practices, permaculture principles, and a deep respect for the land. It’s not always easy, but it is always an adventure! At Flinders Island Harvest, we’re focused on building a resilient, sustainable farm that produces healthy food, improves the land, and fosters connection with the community. We believe that small, thoughtful actions can make a big difference—and that by living with intention, we can contribute to a healthier, more sustainable world.
Our Values
Striving to do Better
We are committed to constantly improving and optimising our processes to reduce our impact and live more sustainably. Whether it’s refining our farming practices or exploring new ways to minimise waste, we believe that every step toward improvement brings us closer to a more sustainable future.
Working with Nature, Not Against It
Guided by permaculture principles, we strive to work in harmony with the land and its natural systems. We recognize that true sustainability comes from understanding and respecting nature, using its rhythms to guide how we grow, harvest, and live.
Community Engagement
We believe in the power of community. By participating in and contributing to our local community, we aim to strengthen connections, share knowledge, and build resilience. Supporting local initiatives and fostering relationships is essential to creating a thriving, sustainable environment for everyone.
Resilience and Adaptability
We understand that challenges are part of the journey. Whether it’s dealing with the unpredictability of nature or navigating the complexities of building a sustainable business, we embrace resilience and adaptability as key tools in creating a thriving farm and community.
Gratitude and Stewardship
We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to live on Flinders Island and care for its unique landscapes. Recognising the privilege of being part of this beautiful place, we approach our work with humility and respect, appreciating the land’s generosity and striving to be responsible stewards for future generations.
